We are committed to one of the key targets of Horizon2020 and Next Generation Europe ‘Science with and for Society’ not only to potentiate awareness of the research and to obtain public input and public support of the research but also to modify tabues and misunderstandings regarding chemistry.
We are convinced that equality and diversity are necessary for science and we do outreaching activities with the hope to help to achieve them.
This section shows some of the outreach activities that I have been doing during the last years
»Tuning the electronic properties of Zr UiO-66 through defect-functionalised multivariate modulation’‘ is a collaboration with Dr Marcelo Assis and Dr Celia Castillo-Blas, in which the multivariate modulation of Metal-Organic Frameworks is presented as a valuable tool to introduce multiple functional units into UiO-66 while increasing its porosity. This manuscript encloses a comprehensive study using p-functionalised benzoate -NO2, -SO3 and -SH modulators, rationalizing the defects introduced (with Pair distribution Funtion measured at ALBA synchrotron) and their impact on properties.

Although due to the covid pandemic the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting had to be online the experience was beyond any expectations, full of meaningfull conversation with young scientists and Nobel Laureates, inspiring talks and much more! If you want to know more about it please read the interview below 🙂
During this interview, Isabel speaks with Vera Koester about her views on the Lindau meeting, her expectations and what she wants to do in the future.
Science is for everyone!!!
Aiming to overcome the gender imbalance in STEM, Isabel discussed her scientific career with high school students in several schools and encouraged them to work towards equality in science.
This activity was organised by the 11deFebrero association, where volunteers can contact high schools through an online platform and give talks at schools in celebration of the International day of Women in Science.
12th November 2020
During this event four Women (including Isabel) in STEM gave short dissemination talks (10 min) related to the work they are performing and their professional career, including favourite and less favourite parts, difficulties encountered and what will they change to make science more inclusive.
In this interview Isabel replies the following questions with an open heart. One of her main goals is to motivate others to pursue their dreams.
- What inspired you to pursue a career in Chemistry?
- Who are your role models?
- How did you get to where you are in your career path?
- What is the coolest project you have worked on and why?
- What’s a time you felt immense pride in yourself / your work?
- What is a “day in the life” of you like?
- What are you seeking to accomplish in your career?
- What do you like to do when you’re not doing research?
- What advice do you have for other women interested in science / in your discipline?
- In your opinion, what will be the next great breakthrough in in your discipline?
- What should be done to increase the number of female scientists and female professors in your discipline?
In this interview performed by Carmen Bachiller, Isabel speaks about her expectations regarding the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting and her goals for the future.
In this interview performed by UAH, Isabel talks about her project DefTiMOFs, her objectives for attending the 70th Nobel Laureate Lindau meeting and her time as an undergratuate in the University of Alcala de Henares among other things.
